My Bio

Born and raised in the Northwestern United States, I joined the military after high school and was privileged with the chance to travel Asia for several years. I have a bachelor's in English and have been writing actively for over a decade. I also currently work as a writing center tutor... so giving feedback on writing is my day job, but I also love to do it, especially for creative writing.

I am also a devout Christian.

Beyond that, I love reading and writing fantasy stories. I don't write fanfiction, so everything here is my own creation unless otherwise stated.

Groups Closing

2 min read
Hello, It's been a while. First off, let me say, if you were a part of my groups, I am terribly sorry. When DA made the switch, it effectively ruined the literature search options. Now that they seem to have fully adapted, it still appears impossible to even filter out literature and a specific genre. Since my groups were genre based, since my interests are genre based, I really gave up on the site. I'm closing the groups down now, so they don't take up space. I'm also, probably, giving up almost entirely on this site. There's no way I could use this (even though the profile presentation is very nice compared to anything else out there) in a professional manner, knowing that 90% of this site appears to be an anime and fetish porn hub. Not being able to narrow a search exasperates the issue. But, I bear DA and especially all of you no ill-will. I wish you all the best. And if you're looking for a writing community, and especially peer feedback, CritiqueCircle.com is still alive

There are a few things that most new writers may be oblivious to until they begin combing their works through thorough critique. One of the main hurdles is the tendency to have weak verbs. This is most commonly seen in filter verbs and adverbs. The Basics A verb is an action word, such as "jump," "write," or the various forms of "to be." Verbs are an essential piece to every complete sentence, yet they are oftentimes neglected. In narratives, verbs should be the driving force, the engine. Whenever possible, they should be the powerful enough to move the story along on their own. Adverbs Writing advice sources and critiquers love to attack adverbs and for good reason. If a verb is an engine, using an adverb is like that scene in Matilda where the father throws sawdust in the engine to fool people into thinking that it's a good car. Beware of the sawdust. An adverb is a word that modifies a verb. Generally, these are words that end in "ly," such as "quietly," "softly," or

As a writing consultant (aka tutor), I see a lot of misplaced and forgotten commas. These little guys play a vital role in clear writing. "Let's eat grandma" is drastically different than "Let's eat, Grandma," even though the words are the same. Here's the most common comma mishap and how to spot it: Coordinating Conjunctions and Commas Coordinating conjunctions are: and, but, or, nor, for, so, and yet. (Or, for you young'uns, "FANBOYS"). Most people know that sometimes conjunctions need a comma, while at other times they do not. "I went hiking and saw a cougar." "I went to the store, and someone hit me with a cart." Both sentences are correct, but what's the deal? Well, it has to do with independent and dependent clauses. Wait, hold on, don't run for the hills yet. It is actually quite simple. An independent clause is part of a sentence that could stand alone, while a dependent clause cannot. "Someone hit me with a cart" is a complete sentence, ergo an independent clause.

Ah! You even faved my story!!! Thank you so much! I hope you continue to enjoy the rest of the series.

Your first chapter was really good!

I totally bombarded you with grammar information/advice though... (Sorry) :blushes:

I just got really excited... about... grammar things... when I saw what was happening with it and that it's actually a fairly easy fix. *pushes up invisible nerdy glasses*

Chapter 1? Really? Dang...I will check those out. I figured that one would be solid by now after like my 6th pass on it. lol.
